What is cathodic dip coating?
Cathodic dip coating is an electrochemical process. It is also called cataphoretic dip coating. The object is coated in a bath of watery, electrically conductive dipping lacquer under a direct voltage. The negatively charged workpiece attracts the anodic paint particles and retains them as an even film on the surface. The applied lacquer is then baked in a stoving process at approx. 120°C – 180 °C. The coating thickness at which the lacquer is applied is determined by the temperature. The layer thickness with which the lacquer is deposited on the component is between 10 and 15 μm. This lacquer layer cross-links with the object surface to form a homogeneous, closed film.
